About the Crown Fellowship
Our Origins
The Crown Fellowship was conceived in response to the evolving role of Nursing Associates within the healthcare workforce and the limited opportunities for national recognition and leadership development available to them.
As the role has grown and matured across a range of care settings, it has become increasingly clear that Nursing Associates require a dedicated framework that recognises their contribution and supports leadership development in a way that reflects their professional identity.
The Crown Fellowship was created to respond to this need, with a focus on leadership, recognition, and contribution rather than training or qualification alone.
Why a Community Interest Company
The Crown Fellowship is operated by The Crown Fellowship CIC, a Community Interest Company established to ensure that all activity is undertaken for public benefit.
The CIC structure was chosen to provide a transparent, accountable framework through which leadership development, recognition, and professional networks can be developed responsibly and sustainably. This structure ensures that the organisation remains focused on long-term impact, with any surplus reinvested into the development of Fellowship activity rather than distributed for private gain.
Why This Matters Now
Healthcare continues to rely on strong, inclusive leadership at every level. As Nursing Associates play an increasingly integral role in patient care and service delivery, it is important that opportunities for leadership, recognition, and professional contribution evolve alongside the role.
The Crown Fellowship reflects a commitment to supporting Nursing Associates to contribute meaningfully to leadership, education, and service improvement across healthcare.
Stewardship and Development
The Crown Fellowship CIC is currently in a development phase. During this period, the organisation is focused on establishing appropriate governance arrangements, engaging with healthcare and education stakeholders, and securing funding to support the future delivery of Fellowship activity aligned with national workforce priorities.
Development of the Fellowship is being approached carefully and collaboratively, with an emphasis on integrity, stewardship, and public benefit.
“Leadership is not a position, but a commitment to improving care, practice, and people.”
Martyn Davey
Director, The Crown Fellowship CIC
Looking Ahead
The Crown Fellowship is being developed with the intention of establishing a nationally recognised framework for leadership, recognition, and professional contribution among Nursing Associates. Future activity will be shaped by collaboration, governance, and partnership, and will be subject to appropriate funding and oversight.
